Below are a list of academic roles Justin has lead over the course of the last 25 years ….
Justin also manages and regularly contributes to a range of social networks that include Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Linkedin, Vimeo & YouTube. With the growing popularity of social networks amongst students, parents and staff Justin has been responsible for the establishment of up to 11 different networks/channels and he currently populates these channels with a variety of campus news, information, recruitment & employability related activity.
As employability co-ordinator for and on behalf of the school Justin is also responsible for liaising with the University’s careers and placement departments in an effort to place as many students in work as possible on graduation. As chair of the schools employability group Justin also oversees and maintains a range of partnerships with business both in the north east and nationally that are looking to fill a range of computing related positions. Events that Justin contributes to and that feed into the employability debate include Expotential, Expotalent, ExpoTees & Animex
Other duties within the department include making a year round contribution to the admissions and recruitment cycle. This would entail representing the school at various open day events, the interview of prospective students, parent hospitality, portfolio review, clearing and UCAS student application approval
BSc Film Technology & Visual Effects
As external examiner I play an important role in the quality and standards. My role is to scrutinise and confirm that the final examination boards have been conducted fairly and in accordance with the University’s regulations and requirements. A distinctive feature of the course at BCU is it’s technology theme. Focusing on the technical aspects of the industry, the technology theme provides a detailed exploration of the nature of light and sound. In addition to this the course also explores image and sound capture technologies, optics, digital film production workflows, and the storage, manipulation and distribution of moving images
BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Design & Production
The course aims at Hull University ( Beverley Campus ) were to prepare students for a global digital community where high-level technological literacy is set to become the norm. The emphasis of the Contemporary Media Design & Production programme was placed on practical production and design. Assessments looked to develop technology with the knowledge and understanding required to function in a competitive market
BA (Hons) Digital 3D Design
With a predominantly art and design based focus, and an additional emphasis on the fundamentals of production design, students graduated from the Digital 3D Design programme as skilled artist in both 2D and 3D. The course encouraged students t become experienced, proficient software users. Over the 3 years of study students developed a well-rounded skill set prized by employers in the animation industry and associated creative sectors.
As Professor in Computer Art at the Savannah College of Art & Design Justin contributed to the development and delivery of a range of animation & vfx programmes that looked to promote the disciplines of 2D, 3D and stop motion animation techniques. Justin also contributed to SCAD’s recruitment and admissions & marketing strategy with regular participation during student interviews and portfolio showcase events. Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit university with locations in Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong and Lacoste in France.
HND Photography & Advertisiing
Whilst studying for a post graduate qualification at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design Justin delivered a set of modules designed to support the use of photography in television & print campaigns. This would involve the acquisition of artwork in a studio environment using 5 x 5" plate, medium format and 35mm film. Justin was also responsible for delivering a suite of modules that looked at the history of photography & advertising.
Working with the team behind the seminal film Terminator 2, Justin couldn't have asked for a better introduction into the then fledging computer graphics industry in London during the early 1990's. Based at the Computer FIlm Company and then later at the Neville Body Research Studio together with the team at 'Lost In Space' he contributed to a range of award winning projects for film, television and new media that included clients such as the Rolling Stones, Disney, Industrial Light & Magic, Pixar, Passion Pictures, Saatchi & Saatchi, The Natural History Museum, Buena Vista International & United Artist to name but a few.
